The Regrettes at Amsterdam Bar and Hall in St. Paul, October 12th, 2019

The Regrettes are an American punk rock band originating in Los Angeles. Since the band started, there have been many changes with the band members. It is currently comprised of guitarist Genessa Gariano, bassist Brooke Dickson, drummer Drew Thomsen, and lead singer Lydia Night (who is the only consistent member of the band). The Regrettes released their first studio album, Feel Your Feelings Fool!, on January 13th, 2017. This was followed by the release of their EP Attention Seeker on February 23rd, 2018. Then after many months of touring, they released their second album, How Do You Love? on August 9th, 2019, putting on a special show and afterparty a few days later at The Fonda in their home town.

Sadly I arrived too late to get to see the opener GREER, but got to see The Regrettes open with the intro to their new album Are You in Love? After their soft lovey intro, they jumped into California Friends and got the crowd jumping and dancing. Over half of the songs from the setlist were off their newest album with a few of their tops songs from past album and EPs sprinkled in with them. For quite a few songs there was a mosh pit going, but like past concerts, the band made sure that everyone was safe and having an awesome time. Just before their encore, Genessa announced that they needed everyone in the crowd to sing along to the next song that “… everyone should know the lyrics to this one!” She then led the whole venue in singing happy birthday to Lydia (who’s 19th birthday was the next day)! For their encore, they Played Coloring Book and ended with a mosh pit to Poor Boy.

I wish I had been able to catch the opener and thought the mosh pits would have been bigger during their songs. All and all though, it was a super fun concert and cool to hear the songs off the new album live.
