Interview with Haley Gold

Emerging American singer-songwriter Haley Gold recently released her cracking new single “Laughing In My Sleep”. Having been in all-star girl group DAME, managed by Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Haley has been working on her own music and has previously released a number of singles, including “Butterflies” and “Knock Yourself Out”, to great acclaim. The new song features Haley’s powerful vocals against beautiful string lines and pop beats.

We caught up with Haley to talk about the new single and how it feel to be a solo artist after being in a successful group.

Hi Haley! How’s everything going right now?
Everything is absolutely incredible actually! Just riding the high of a new single and getting to perform it LIVE so I’m just super happy!

What classic album cover is your current mood?
OOOO album cover that’s my current mood is probably Dua Lipa, Future Nostalgia is my vibe right now for sure! That retro feel is all me!

Your new single ‘Laughing In My Sleep’ is out now. Can you tell us a bit about it?
This song is for sure one of my favorites. It was an out liar and I think when I wrote this song with my best friends Mark Sanderlin and Jesse Blumenfeld we all collectively walked out of the session going, “I think we’re really onto something!” Haha and here we are today! but, this song truly speaks for itself. It’s an anthem for enjoying being with yourself and no one else and opening your eyes to fresh starts.

It’s more of an all-out pop song than your previous singles? Was that a deliberate change or is it just how the song came about?
Haha funny you say that, it kinda was to be honest. I really wanted to create a sound that was still authentic to me (which is certainly singersongwriter pop) but had an edge and retro feel to it so this disco anthem certainly did the trick and I could not be more proud of it!

If you could only listen to one record, what would it be?
HAHAH one record only, tough question but I’m that person when a new song comes out, it’s the only song I listen to until I truly get sick of it which could be anywhere from a day or a week to a month hahah probably it would be James Arthur, “Empty Space”. I love him haha

How did you find the change from being part of a band to now being a solo artist?
Truly difficult actually. You would think it would be harder to be your own artist but I didn’t know who I was alone / out of the group when we split so it was a lot of soul searching not just for music but for myself.

Who did you listen to when you were growing up and what was the first concert you went to?
I grew up listening to a lot of Queen, Elvis Presley and completely random but still incredible, Pussycat dolls haha Nicole certainly brought out the singer in me..

You have a headline show planned for Apr 23rd at Heaven Can Wait in New York. What can people expect from your live performances?
Not just music that’s release but a whole lot of new music which is kinda my favorite part of performing so definitely if your in New York, come stop by because there’s a lot of things only people at my shows have heard / will maybe even only hear…hmmmm haha

What would go on your signature pizza and what would it be called?
HAHA if only I wasn’t dairy free this would be the question for me! Haha for me it’s for sure it would be some sort of vegan margarita pizza and it would have to be called “the OG” haha the original.

What else do you have planned for 2022?
I actually have a new single coming out, “May 20th” can’t tell you the name yet but it’s a song I’ve been holding onto for about 3 years now so let’s just say I’m partying when it’s realized! Haha a whole lot of blood sweat and tears went into that song so it’ll be sweet finally giving it to the masses haha
