I Sold My Soul – Kelsey Montanez

Singer-songwriter Kelsey Montanez is kicking off the new year with her punchy new single “I Sold My Soul.” Compared to the smooth sultry start featured in her previous release “Let Me Love You,” the new track hits with a strong guitar riff. With maximalist production Montanez creates a powerful balance of punchy angst with tender vulnerability to exult the rawness of difficult truths. As the initial guitar riff fades, Montanez’s vocals claim full attention for the chorus before giving the guitar center stage

Chicago-based fans can catch her first shows of the year at Reggie’s Chicago on Jan. 21 with The Vultures and ARREIS and at The Cubby Bear Chicago on Feb. 9 with The Vultures.

Among the singer-songwriter’s many talents, it’s Montanez’s arresting voice that has captured a devoted fanbase. It comes as no surprise that her visceral 2013 EP “A Delightful Sadness” scored her a record contract and music video with Chance the Rapper on lead single “Out of Sight.” True to her strong sense of independence, Montanez subsequently opted to pursue her own uncompromising artistic vision. It took a pandemic worth of isolation and heartbreak to transform that raw power into the refined spectacle that is her first record in over a decade.
