New Single – “Knock the Wind” – Elle Lane
If you checked out this week’s playlist, I’m sure you were as entranced as we were by the new single from California singer-songwriter Elle Lane. Taken for her forthcoming EP (which is due for release in November), “Knock the Wind” was recorded, mixed and produced by Elle and we asked her about the writing process.
I wrote the first version of “Knock the Wind” back in March of 2025, looking back at the original video which is in my laptop photo booth app, Some people do voice memos to save songs, I do photo booth videos. The first version’s tag was actually “I’ll never get to have you back” and it felt too melancholy to me, and somewhere I landed on the “you knock the wind out of me” and it just clicked for the song. The original feelings of the song was just this intense sadness and regret, for driving someone away and having to live with it. But the more I worked on it the more closure I got with those feelings and then it became, I made my mistakes and it’s over now, but even now even after all this time if I saw this person again, it would still be this same exhilarating exciting love that it was at the beginning and that even for a small chance of that feeling. I would do it all over again.
Elle Lane
Elle’s upcoming project, inspired by acoustic folk and pop like Big Thief, The Paper Kites and Gregory Alan Isakov, is an acoustic pop EP, recorded, mixed, and produced by Elle. The upcoming EP and its singles is a blend of intimate honest lyrics, and modern warm pop instrumentals, it touches on the feelings of nostalgia, home and moving on. Check out “Knock the Wind” below.
Raised is San Francisco but now based in LA, Elle works on her own music at Calarts, where she attends school for Experimental Pop music, She spends her free time songwriting and working as a sound engineer at her school. Elle is also the lead singer and bassist for Eden, a indie experimental rock band formed at Calarts, and plays show in the LA/SF area as Elle Lane and Eden.
