Review: “Happy” by Circa Waves
Just nine months after their third album “What’s It Like Over There?”, Liverpool’s Circa Waves are back with a new album. Being released in two parts (as is the current vogue), January saw the release of “Happy” with “Sad” due to follow in March 2020.
“Happy” certainly has plenty of joyous moments over its seven tracks. Kieran Shudall sings that “The good times are..coming round the bend” on Vampire Weekend-esque lead single “Jacqueline” while “Move to San Francisco” talks about relocating to where “all the happy people go”. The album catches its breath on “The Things We knew Last Night” before storming back with the rousing “Call Your Name”. Closing track “Love You More” hints at where “Sad” may take over asking to “save me…from the monsters in this room“
At a time when we all need some reasons to feel “Happy”, Circa Waves have delivered a collection of songs that will leave you feeling upbeat – even if it is just until the second half of the album is released!
