Before The Crack Up – Declan McNulty

Declan McNulty is a UK based solo artist who writes songs rooted in real life experience, inspired by every-day observations and composed of characters and situations that encountered along the way. He has just released his new single ‘Before The Crack Up’ and it’s a cracking piece of indie rock and roll. A bit more up tempo than his last release ‘The Angels Only We Know’ (which we featured on one of our playlists last year – check it out here), it has a definite Gallagher/Weller influence and is well worth a listen!

Declan says of his new single: “I wrote the basic tune for this during lockdown, then after my last single came out I wanted to do something a bit uptempo and guitar heavy, so I changed it up a bit and gave it a bit more of a driving rock beat, and I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. I recorded it at City Sound Studios in Clayton, with Danny Yates on the production, who has done an amazing job as always”

An accomplished multi instrumentalist playing with many different bands over the years, Declan has honed his craft contributing bass, harmonica, guitar amongst other things to the sound of several groups over the years. Having spent so long on the side of the stage, Declan turned his hand to songwriting and after receiving a positive reaction on the local music scene, wrote over an albums worth of material in under a year and decided to go solo. His debut EP, “This Savage Land”, is a true solo effort with Declan playing all the instruments on all the self penned compositions, and was released on the 14th August 2020, with further singles “Tanquaray and Tambourine” and “The Angels Only She Knows” released in 2021.
