r.i.p (dead 2 me) – an Interview with Gabriella Stella

Singer/Songwriter Gabriella Stella has just released her latest single “r.i.p (dead 2 me)”. Her most vulnerable song to date, it not only showcases the freeing nature of ending toxic cycles but also exemplifies her passionate voice and eclectic music choices. If you enjoyed “Sour” by Olivia Rodrigo then you will definitely want to have a listen.

We caught up with Gabriella to talk about the new song and her musical influences.

Hi Gabriella! How’s everything going right now?
It’s going well; I have a new song coming out which always make me happy.

What classic album cover is your current mood?
Fleetwood Mac- Rumors I love the dark colors and the angelic dance move. I love this album and just can’t get enough.

Your new single “r.i.p (dead 2 me)” is out now. What was the song’s inspiration and when did you write and record it?
This song is all about letting go of a toxic relationship to allow yourself healing. I think sometimes we feel like we have to hold onto relationships. I wrote this song in July of this year and recorded it in September.

It has a more pop-rock feel to it compared to the tracks on your recent EP “Eat Cake.” Was this deliberate or just the way the song evolved?
I was heavily inspired by Nessa Barrett and the production of her music. I took inspiration from Olivia Rodrigo. I wanted a song that you listened to the lyrics and were like dang this is dark; but you are still able to dance around and scream the lyrics.

If you could only listen to one record, what would it be?
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac is a classic and I am on a kick with Stevie right now. I don’t get tired of performing it or listening to it.

Who were your favorite artists when you were younger and how have they influenced your singing and songwriting?
My favorite artists were (still are) Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus. They had incredible vocals at such a young age. I loved the way they commanded the room with their presence. It’s funny because my mom played Dixie chicks, Shania Twain, and Jewel. What can I say? I love strong independent women who command the room.

I read that you have previous acted and modeled as well – how have those experiences helped you as you’ve moved into the music business?
Acting has helped me be able to perform my emotions and direct my music videos. We used to have to write scripts and direct the actors. Modeling has given me ideas of posing for the covers of my music and what looks I want.

You’ve performed in some famous places already like House of Blues and Disneyland – do you have any more planned for the new single?
I always have shows planned and you can find the shows listed on my website: www.gabriellastella.com/

What would go on your signature pizza and what would it be called?
Well I am vegan so bear with me: I would have vegan cheese and do like a version of a margherita pizza. I would call it “fresh 2 death” inspired by my song “R.I.P (dead 2 me)” of course.

What do you have planned for 2023?
New music of course and you never know what other things I have planned. I love the element of surprise and keeping you waiting.

23-year-old Gabriella Stella is a high-octane singer/songwriter with a burst of pop energy in a very petite package. The Texas native has fierce choices of surprise and righteous raw sound leaving you desiring one more riff.
